About the role#
As a Mechanical Test Engineer intern, you will join a team of engineers focused on validating hardware designs for Tesla products. You will work on projects that demonstrate the functionality, performance, and durability of new designs. This role requires you to work on-site full-time for the Winter and Spring 2027 terms. We look for students who are currently enrolled in an academic program and can commit to at least 12 weeks of work.
What you'll do#
- Build custom test equipment using linear actuators, motors, pumps, and other hardware components.
- Manage projects from the initial concept phase through design, assembly, and final commissioning.
- Write and maintain test software to automate data collection, analysis, and execution.
- Develop validation schedules to coordinate resources and update program managers on project status.
What you'll need#
- Currently pursuing a degree in Mechanical Engineering, Mechatronics, Vehicle Engineering, Computer Science, Photographic Sciences, or a related field.
- Hands-on experience with tools such as multimeters, power supplies, motors, and actuators.
- Ability to read engineering drawings and a strong grasp of technical fundamentals.
- Experience with extracurricular, academic, or personal projects that demonstrate technical skill.
- A detail-oriented approach to troubleshooting root causes and a desire to work hands-on with systems.
- Ability to collaborate with cross-functional teams.
- Preferred: Coding experience with Python for automation, familiarity with sensors, and CAD design experience using CATIA, SOLIDWORKS, or Autodesk Inventor.
- Preferred: Demonstrated interest in electric vehicles or sustainable energy.
