About the role#
This internship focuses on mechanical and enclosure design for utility scale energy storage and supercharging products. You will work within the Energy Engineering team to develop designs from initial concepts through to mass production. This is a full-time, on-site position requiring a minimum commitment of 12 weeks.
What you'll do#
- Model and design mechanical components and assemblies using sheet metal, structural metals, plastics, environmental sealing materials, and fasteners.
- Perform mechanical design analysis, including structural finite element analysis, design for assembly, design for manufacturing, and design for test.
- Collaborate with thermal, systems, electrical, sourcing, manufacturing, and reliability teams to meet performance, aesthetic, schedule, cost, and quality targets.
- Create engineering test plans and assist with prototype builds and component fabrication.
- Solve production problems and root cause test failures.
- Produce high quality drawing packages and manufacturing instructions for parts and assemblies.
What you'll need#
- Currently pursuing a degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related field.
- Proficiency in CAD modeling, with CATIA V5/V6 experience considered a plus.
- Experience designing for high-volume assembly, including both manual and automated processes.
- Knowledge of manufacturing processes such as metal stamping, extruding, welding, brazing, plating, heat treating, plastic injection molding, thermoforming, and bonding.
- Experience designing products for outdoor environments, including IP/NEMA environmental seals.
- Strong fundamentals in mechanics, heat transfer, and fluids.
- Experience with structural analysis, including static and frequency response spectrum FEA.
- Background in packaging solutions for battery or power electronics systems.
- Knowledge of electrical principles applied to renewable energy systems.
Location & details#
- Location: Palo Alto, California.
