About the role#
This internship offers students the chance to work within the Materials Engineering organization at Tesla. You will support technical teams across various disciplines, including additive manufacturing, coatings, polymers, metals, ceramics, and casting. Interns take ownership of projects that contribute to the success of their specific team. This is a full-time, on-site position requiring 40 hours per week.
What you'll do#
- Support hands-on operation of additive manufacturing machines and post-processing tasks.
- Characterize fabricated parts to identify defects and analyze mechanical properties.
- Design and develop complex processes for product finishing and coating.
- Execute and interpret results from Design of Experiments.
- Conduct work related to alloy development, failure analysis, and material characterization.
- Take ownership of a technical project focused on materials testing.
- Suggest and implement joining methods for systems.
- Specify, engineer, and design mechanical aspects of high-pressure die casting dies.
What you'll need#
- Current enrollment in a degree program for Materials Science or a related field.
- Proficiency with 3D CAD or simulation tools.
- A strong understanding of the mechanical, thermal, electrical, and physical properties of materials.
Location & details#
- Location: Fremont, California.
- Terms: Winter 2027 and Spring 2027.
- Commitment: Minimum of 12 weeks, full-time, on-site.
- Compensation: This position is paid.
