About the role#
This internship program places students in technical roles across our cell engineering teams. You will work alongside mentors and managers to contribute to projects that support battery technology development. This is a full-time, on-site position. We require a minimum commitment of 12 weeks. The program runs during the Winter, Spring, and Summer 2027 terms.
What you'll do#
- Develop and scale materials at lab and pilot scales.
- Coordinate cross-functional activities to improve process control and product quality.
- Build and maintain numerical models to predict lithium-ion cell performance.
- Document and communicate model workflows, implementations, and simulation results.
- Perform lab work including cell assembly, testing, and post mortem analysis.
- Translate laboratory data into actionable process information.
- Support the engineering and operation of pilot plants.
- Contribute to battery performance testing and electrochemical analysis.
- Develop cell test plans to characterize performance, lifetime, and reliability.
- Plan test resources, track progress, and report testing results.
What you'll need#
- Currently pursuing a degree in Materials Science, Materials Engineering, Chemical Engineering, or a related field.
- Strong understanding of materials engineering fundamentals and electrochemistry.
- Experience with lithium-ion battery research, design, manufacturing, or testing.
- Proficiency in materials characterization tools, ideally with polymeric composite materials.
- Working knowledge of Matlab or Python.
- Experience with synthetic techniques used in developing materials for lithium-ion cells.
- Mechanically capable and willing to engage with equipment to conduct experimental operations.
- Prior experience in cathode and lithium-ion battery testing.
- Evidence of exceptional ability and the capacity to solve technical problems.
