About the role#
As a Manufacturing Electrical Engineering intern, you will join the Solar Roof Manufacturing Engineering team in Fremont. You will contribute to the design, commissioning, and process development of automated lines for Tesla energy products. You will work alongside internal Product Design, Operations, Facilities, and Quality teams to develop new manufacturing equipment and ensure it meets high standards for safety, throughput, and yield.
What you'll do#
- Collaborate with the Solar Design team to propose solutions for energy products while adhering to Design for Manufacturability principles.
- Develop manufacturing methods and select the necessary equipment to commercialize solar products.
- Oversee the installation and ramp-up of manufacturing equipment.
- Support the design, assembly, and debugging of hardware, including basic programming.
- Develop and modify HMI screens using Ignition to improve operator experience and assist with MES interface validation.
- Maintain and troubleshoot control systems, including PLCs and industrial networks.
- Characterize baseline system performance and drive improvements in product yield and tool availability.
- Handle additional projects as business needs change.
What you'll need#
- Currently pursuing a degree in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or a related field.
- Experience with EPLAN software or Electrical AutoCAD.
- Experience programming PLCs and articulated robots.
- Practical skills with industrial electrical systems, including 480V 3-phase, 110VAC, and 24VDC.
- Ability to read electrical schematics and familiarity with electrical code.
- Experience in electrical panel building.
- Strong hands-on experience, preferably in high-volume or pilot manufacturing.
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills for working with vendors and production personnel at all levels.
Location & details#
- Location: Fremont, California.
- Term: Winter 2027, Spring 2027, or Summer 2027.
- Commitment: Full-time (40 hours per week), on-site, for a minimum of 12 weeks.
