About the role#
The Tesla Energy Compliance team is looking for a Grid Compliance Test Engineer to support the global deployment of micro-grid inverters, grid support, and grid interactive systems. You will handle grid certifications from the initial research of market entry requirements through to design consultancy, certification, and permitting. You will also participate in code development groups to help advance industry standards.
What you'll do#
- Run test cases on energy products to ensure grid and safety compliance.
- Collaborate with stakeholders to troubleshoot equipment and prepare alternative solutions.
- Negotiate testing scope and pass/fail criteria with Nationally Recognized Testing Laboratories (NRTLs).
- Test inverters, converters, and battery modules for product certification.
- Set up test configuration hardware and firmware, post-process test results, and submit them to certification bodies.
- Create configuration files for specific countries or utilities to meet grid compliance requirements.
- Write Compliance Product Design Requirements (CPDR) for design teams.
- Support product registrations and permitting applications.
- Research new market entry requirements and track regulatory changes.
- Represent Tesla in code and committee groups.
What you'll need#
- Currently pursuing a degree in Electrical Engineering, Electronics Engineering, Power Electronics, or a related field.
- Experience taking solar power and energy storage systems through a certification process.
- High voltage and power experience.
- Familiarity with grid interactive and grid support standards.
- Experience with AC/DC power supplies and lab measuring equipment.
- Proficiency with data acquisition and analyzer tools such as LabVIEW, Yokogawa, or Dewetron, as well as grid simulators and RLC load banks.
- Strong communication skills and attention to detail.
- Ability to interpret the ambiguity of standards.

- Modality: Full-time, on-site (40 hours per week).
- Compensation: Paid internship.
