About the role#
The Field Quality team works to improve the customer experience of Tesla energy products like Powerwall, Megapack, and Superchargers. You will identify, analyze, and report on issues affecting these products. This role requires you to understand the detailed behavior of our energy hardware and the tools used in their design and manufacture. You will work with engineering and service teams to mitigate issues and improve product reliability.
What you'll do#
- Monitor field performance and identify trending issues.
- Prioritize work based on the severity, occurrence, and cost of failure modes.
- Use engineering first principles to create failure hypotheses for emerging trends.
- Coordinate with field service teams to get defective hardware returned for analysis.
- Perform deep-dive data analysis to support root cause investigations.
- Partner with the Failure Analysis team to identify the root causes of technical problems.
- Collaborate with engineering, factory quality, and suppliers to implement corrective actions in production and design.
- Participate in continuous improvement activities and take preventive action.
What you'll need#
- Currently pursuing a degree in Mechanical, Electrical, Mechatronics, Electronics Engineering, or a related field.
- Prior experience in Failure Analysis, Product Engineering, Quality, or Service within consumer electronics or automotive is preferred.
- A broad engineering background with the ability to work with design, manufacturing, and service teams.
- Strong communication skills to build effective working relationships.
- Ability to use business systems and tools to manage and interpret data.
- Experience with SQL, Python, Jupyterhub, Minitab, Tableau, or JMP is a plus.
Location & details#
- Location: Palo Alto, California.
- Term: Winter, Spring, or Summer 2027.
- Commitment: Full-time, 40 hours per week, on-site for a minimum of 12 weeks.
