About the role#
Tesla is building humanoid robots to automate repetitive tasks. As an embedded software intern, you will develop drivers and application code for the Optimus platform. You will work on subsystems ranging from ASIC interfaces to communication protocols. This role involves the full firmware development cycle, from initial concept through to final integration and release.
What you'll do#
- Create scalable real-time embedded software for the sensing, control, and safety management of robot actuators.
- Bring up new sensors, communication networks, and PCBA hardware.
- Build automated tests to maintain software quality and functional accuracy.
- Collaborate with hardware and controls teams to define actuation and sensing requirements.
- Influence electronics designs through technical feedback.
What you'll need#
- Current enrollment in a Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Software Engineering, or related degree program.
- Graduation date between May 2027 and December 2027.
- Proficiency in C or C++.
- Familiarity with Python is a plus.
- Ability to read electrical schematics and understand circuit behavior.
- Knowledge of microcontroller peripherals like ADC, PWM, SPI, I2C, ethernet, and CAN.
- Experience with sensors, digital signal processing, and Real-Time Operating Systems (RTOS).
- Understanding of the physical and data link layers of ethernet or other communication protocols.
Location & details#
- Location: Palo Alto, California.
- Modality: On-site, 40 hours per week.
- Term: Winter 2027 and Summer 2027.
- Status: Full-time paid internship.
