About the role#
The Optimus electronics team develops the electrical systems for our humanoid robot, including power conversion for actuators, motors, sensors, and battery systems. You will join a multi-disciplinary team to design the electrical "cardiovascular, sensory, and nervous" systems of the robot. This role covers the full design cycle, from initial schematics to production support.
What you'll do#
- Own the end-to-end development process, including requirement definition, simulation, schematic capture, board layout, and manufacturing iteration.
- Bring up, integrate, and validate circuit functionality.
- Collaborate with firmware, mechanical, motor control, and PCB layout teams to design robotic hardware.
- Debug hardware interactions across various systems.
- Document design requirements, calculations, and validation results.
- Iterate on designs as product features and requirements evolve.
What you'll need#
- Current enrollment in an Electrical Engineering, Robotics, or Mechatronics degree program with a graduation date between May and December 2027.
- Experience with power electronics, power supplies, and high or low voltage systems.
- Proficiency in circuit board design, preferably using Altium.
- Strong grasp of analog and digital circuits, including MOSFETs, op-amps, switching regulators, gate drivers, microcontrollers, SPI, and I2C.
- Familiarity with communication protocols like CAN, Bluetooth, LIN, or Ethernet.
- Ability to use lab equipment such as oscilloscopes and electronic loads.
- Experience shipping high-volume circuit boards.
- Basic programming skills, with a preference for Python.
Location & details#
- Location: Palo Alto, California.
- Term: Winter and Spring 2027.
- Work Modality: This is a full-time, 40-hour per week, on-site position.
