About the role#
This is a full-time, paid internship within the Energy Engineering department. You will take ownership of circuit boards and electronics for low voltage test systems from start to finish. This includes specification, design, prototyping, and fabrication. You will work on-site for a minimum of 12 weeks during the Winter and Spring of 2027.
What you'll do#
- Build, bring-up, and debug new circuit boards.
- Collaborate with mechanical, firmware, software, and electrical teams to design systems that validate new products.
- Review schematics and design circuitry to emulate physical signals and behaviors.
- Integrate with validation software frameworks to create automated test systems.
- Maintain test setups to ensure they run reliably.
- Learn and apply electrical engineering best practices to existing tools.
What you'll need#
- Current enrollment in an Electrical Engineering or Mechatronics degree program, or evidence of exceptional skills in related fields.
- Strong fundamentals in electrical engineering and circuit design.
- Proficiency with tools like oscilloscopes and network analyzers.
- Experience with communication protocols including SPI, UART, I2C, and CAN.
- Familiarity with PCB design software such as Altium and simulation tools like LTspice or Cadence.
- Technical experience debugging microprocessors and software-controlled devices.
- Proficiency in Python and experience interfacing with PC-based test systems like Matlab or Labview.
- Knowledge of power semiconductors, gate drive, and protection circuitry.
- Experience with embedded programming of DSPs and FPGAs for real-time control is valuable.
- Familiarity with Catia or Solidworks is a plus.
- Ability to work independently and communicate complex technical concepts clearly.
Location & details#
- Locations: Austin, Texas or Palo Alto, California.
- Term: Winter 2027 through Spring 2027.
- Commitment: Full-time (40 hours per week) on-site.
