About the role#
This internship focuses on the design, development, and commissioning of machine control systems for 4680 Cell Manufacturing. You will take ownership of electrical controls designs for manufacturing sites and collaborate with internal engineering teams and external vendors. This role provides the opportunity to work on design and test projects with independence while contributing to electronics, firmware, and test technology.
What you'll do#
- Design and develop electrical control systems from concept to implementation.
- Select electrical components including circuit protectors, sensors, safety hardware, PLC hardware, remote I/O, variable frequency drives, and servo systems.
- Manage electrical controls designs for manufacturing sites.
- Apply knowledge of electrical standards such as NFPA 79, IEC 60204-1, and UL508A.
- Work with Beckhoff and Siemens control systems and architectures including EtherCat, FSoE, ProfiNet, and ProfiSafe.
What you'll need#
- Current enrollment in an Electrical Engineering program.
- Understanding of electrical control panel design, system wiring, and instrumentation.
- Experience with project implementation on Beckhoff or Siemens platforms.
- Ability to work full-time and on-site for a minimum of 12 weeks.
Location & details#
This is a full-time, on-site internship available for the Winter, Spring, or Summer 2027 terms. Positions are located in San Diego, Palo Alto, and Fremont, California; Austin and Robstown, Texas; Reno, Nevada; and Toronto, Ontario.
