About the role#
Tesla is looking for software engineering students to contribute to internal infrastructure and applications. You will work within teams focused on Applications Engineering, Business Operations, and Service Software Engineering. These teams support the development of vehicle technology, internal business processes, and field support diagnostics.
What you'll do#
- Architect, build, and manage infrastructure and applications for engineering teams, including Connected Systems, Firmware, and Autopilot.
- Plan and design infrastructure components that support the development of vehicles and technologies.
- Create services and tools that power internal software and operational processes.
- Develop diagnostic tools and informational content to assist field support teams.
- Bridge the gap between product performance in the field and engineering design.
What you'll need#
- Currently pursuing a degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field with a graduation date between 2027 and 2028.
- Proficiency in one or more backend languages such as Python, Go, Java, or C/C++.
- Experience building or maintaining backend services, APIs, or infrastructure.
- A solid grasp of computer science fundamentals, including data structures, algorithms, and complexity.
- Ability to write clear, well-organized code.
- Experience with SQL databases and working with REST/gRPC APIs, messaging queues, or distributed systems.
- Familiarity with Docker, Kubernetes, CI/CD, or cloud environments.
- Exposure to testing, observability, or performance tuning.
- Ability to work independently and collaborate across teams with a detail-oriented focus.
Location & details#
- This is a full-time, on-site internship based in Fremont, California.
- The role is available for the Winter 2027 and Summer 2027 terms.
- Interns are expected to work 40 hours per week for a minimum of 12 weeks.
- This position is paid and open to students currently enrolled in an academic program.
