About the role#
Tesla is looking for machine learning interns to build large-scale models for autonomy. You will join a lean team and work with one of the largest training clusters available. Your work will be shipped to and used by millions of Tesla customers. This is a full-time, on-site internship.
What you'll do#
- Train large-scale foundation and generative models optimized for performance and latency.
- Improve the data engine for high-quality dataset curation.
- Use reinforcement learning to instill objectives and improve model robustness.
- Design compound AI systems for planning and reasoning, focusing on world modeling and generative videos.
- Conduct applied research in computer vision, large language models, and generative modeling.
- Implement techniques like multi-task learning, video networks, imitation learning, and self-supervised learning.
- Build end-to-end learning systems for self-driving using millions of miles of driving data.
- Experiment with data generation and network-driven collection to improve training data quality.
- Ship safety-critical software to the Tesla vehicle fleet.
What you'll need#
- Active enrollment in an academic program in Computer Science, Data Science, Computer Engineering, or Electrical Engineering.
- Experience with machine learning frameworks such as PyTorch, TensorFlow, GPT, and CNNs.
- Strong Python skills and knowledge of software engineering practices.
- Experience with reinforcement learning, imitation learning, or modern neural network architectures like diffusion models.
- Deep understanding of deep learning, including layer details, loss functions, and optimization.
- Background in sparse training, neural network pruning, and generative modeling.
- Experience training large models on distributed computing systems.
- A track record of innovation, such as shipping products or first-author publications at AI conferences.
Location & details#
- Location: Palo Alto, California.
- Term: Fall 2026 or Winter 2027.
- Commitment: Minimum 12 weeks, full-time, on-site.
