About the role#
As an intern on the Optimus Actuator Mechanical Test team, you will focus on the validation of robotic actuators. You will work on-site in a full-time capacity, collaborating with design engineers to refine hardware through rigorous testing and analysis.
What you'll do#
- Create, implement, and execute validation and qualification test plans for electromechanical robotic actuators.
- Design and build test fixtures and equipment for linear and rotary actuator testing.
- Perform testing at the component, actuator, and system levels.
- Analyze test data and write detailed reports to document results.
- Investigate the root cause of failures to support design improvements.
- Collaborate with design engineers to validate and refine actuator performance.
What you'll need#
- Current enrollment in a degree program for Physics, Mechanical Engineering, Robotics, Mechatronics, or a related field.
- A graduation date between May 2027 and December 2027.
- Strong engineering fundamentals and the ability to perform first-principles analysis.
- Proficiency in CAD software, specifically CATIA or Solidworks.
- Experience in physical testing and analysis of mechanical, electrical, and electrotechnical systems.
- Experience using dynamometer testing and equipment.
- A working understanding of servo control, including torque, speed, and position control.
- Skills in basic fabrication, machining, wiring, general electronics, and debugging.
- Programming skills in Matlab/Simulink or Python are preferred.
- Hands-on experience with actuator and component testing is preferred.
Location & details#
- This internship is located in Langley, British Columbia, Canada.
- Terms available: Winter 2027 and Summer 2027.
- This is a full-time, on-site position requiring 40 hours per week.
- Compensation is $20.00 to $50.00 per hour, plus eligible benefits.
