About the role#
As an intern on the Optimus Actuator Mechanical Test Team, you will focus on the test and validation of robotic actuators. You will work alongside Design Engineers to refine actuator designs and ensure project success through hands-on testing.
What you'll do#
- Collaborate with Design Engineers to create validation and qualification test plans.
- Develop, implement, and execute test plans for electromechanical robotic actuators.
- Design and fabricate test fixtures and equipment for linear and rotary actuators.
- Perform testing at the component, actuator, and system levels.
- Analyze test data and write comprehensive test reports.
- Investigate the root cause of failures and help drive design improvements.
What you'll need#
- Currently pursuing a degree in Physics, Mechanical Engineering, Robotics, Mechatronics, or a related field.
- Graduation date between May 2027 and December 2027.
- Strong engineering fundamentals and the ability to perform first-principles analysis.
- Proficiency in CAD software, specifically CATIA or Solidworks.
- Experience in physical testing and analysis of mechanical, electrical, and electrotechnical systems.
- Basic skills in fabrication, machining, wiring, general electronics, debugging, and parts chasing.
- Preferred: Programming skills in Matlab, Simulink, or Python.
- Preferred: Experience with actuator and component testing, as well as dynamometer equipment.
- A working understanding of servo control, including torque, speed, and position control.

- This role is based on-site in Palo Alto, California.
- This is a full-time, paid internship.
- Terms available: Winter 2027 and Summer 2027.
