About the role#
This internship focuses on manufacturing process technology for the Tesla Optimus gearbox. You will join a team developing new actuators, working on prototyping, testing, and process development. The role involves designing tooling and fixtures, creating new manufacturing cells in an R&D environment, and building assemblies for validation.
What you'll do#
- Design tooling and fixtures for gearbox manufacturing.
- Develop and test new manufacturing cells and concept processes for R&D.
- Qualify manufacturing process setups and inspect components.
- Build and validate assemblies for process development.
- Perform prototyping and testing.
What you'll need#
- Current enrollment in Physics, Mechanical Engineering, Robotics, Mechatronics, or a related degree program.
- Graduation date between 2026 and 2027.
- Strong engineering fundamentals and the ability to perform first-principles analysis, including stress-strain, thermal, tolerance, cost, and mass optimization.
- Proficiency in CAD software, specifically CATIA or Solidworks.
- Experience in physical testing and analysis of mechanical, electrical, and electrotechnical systems.
- Experience with dynamometer testing equipment, such as torque transducers, power analyzers, and oscilloscopes.
- A working understanding of servo control, including torque, speed, and position control.
- Practical skills in fabrication, machining, wiring, general electronics, debugging, and parts chasing.
- Programming skills in Matlab, Simulink, or Python are preferred.
- Hands-on experience with actuator and component testing is preferred.
Location & details#
- Location: Langley, British Columbia, Canada.
- Term: Winter 2027 (January through May).
- Work Modality: Full-time, on-site (40 hours per week).
- Compensation: Paid position.
