About the role#
Tesla is looking for a System Test Engineer Intern to join the Energy Engineering team. You will support the testing of off-board charging products, including Superchargers, Wall Connectors, and Mobile Connectors. This role focuses on validating hardware, firmware, and software to ensure our charging systems are reliable and secure. You will work on-site in Palo Alto for a minimum of 12 weeks, starting in January 2027.
What you'll do#
- Run automated and manual tests for current and next-generation charging products.
- Identify and report system-level issues to engineering teams for resolution.
- Design test cases that cover standard customer use cases and edge cases.
- Help set up mechanical and electrical test equipment to replicate real-world field conditions.
- Monitor the automated test pipeline and investigate test failures.
- Document test results and escalate issues when necessary.
What you'll need#
- Currently pursuing a degree in Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Computer Science, or a related field.
- Proficiency in Python is preferred, and knowledge of C is a plus.
- Hands-on experience with electrical, automotive, or computer repair.
- Comfort working in a lab environment using tools like oscilloscopes, CAN tools, and soldering irons.
- Strong computer skills, specifically with Windows and Linux.
- Ability to lift 40 pounds, work indoors or outdoors, and stand for extended periods.
- Strong analytical problem-solving skills and attention to detail.

- Location: Palo Alto, California.
- Term: Winter, Spring, or Summer 2027.
- Commitment: Full-time (40 hours per week), on-site.
- Compensation: $20.00 - $50.00 per hour plus benefits.
