About the role#
As a Software Integration Intern for Optimus, you will act as the technical bridge between core robot software teams and the broader Tesla hardware and software groups. You will apply systems engineering principles to guide development, manage software and hardware dependencies, and ensure that various subsystems function as a cohesive unit. This role requires a blend of hands-on coding, system testing, and project coordination to move development milestones forward.
What you'll do#
- Write C and C++ code to improve software features or support new subsystem integration.
- Develop prototype test setups to integrate new hardware with simulated and actual robot systems.
- Lead the integration, bring-up, and debugging of alpha and beta-phase prototype robots.
- Collaborate with mechanical, electrical, actuator, and firmware teams to support hardware changes.
- Develop diagnostic tools, processes, and methods to perform root-cause analysis on product issues.
- Work with manufacturing teams to ensure functions are properly implemented and operational.
- Partner with validation teams to design tests for system functions and interfaces.
- Provide feedback to program management regarding timelines for risk mitigation.
What you'll need#
- Current enrollment in a Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Software Engineering, or related degree program.
- Graduation date between May 2027 and December 2027.
- Proficiency in C or C++ (Python experience is a plus).
- Experience with systems involving multiple networked microprocessors and smart electro-mechanical actuators.
- Ability to lead through influence and collaborate effectively across cross-functional teams.
- Skill in multi-tasking and switching between parallel projects.
- Ability to communicate complex technical topics to different organizational levels.

- Location: Palo Alto, California.
- Terms: Winter 2027, Spring 2027, or Summer 2027.
- Modality: On-site, full-time (40 hours per week).
- Compensation: $125,000 per year plus benefits.
