About the role#
As an intern on the Tesla AI software team, you will contribute to the development of humanoid robots. You will own the robotic learning stack from initial design through to deployment. Your work will involve creating code for learned robotics, specifically for full body locomotion and precise manipulation. You will see your code run on thousands of humanoid robots in real-world applications.
What you'll do#
- Design and implement reliable, efficient code for learned robotics.
- Develop end-to-end robotic learning systems using reinforcement or imitation learning.
- Train machine learning and deep learning models on computing clusters for grasping and locomotion tasks.
- Teach robots to perform dexterous tasks using high degree of freedom hands.
- Develop robot policies to solve language-conditioned tasks using vision.
- Own the robotic learning stack from inception to deployment.
What you'll need#
- Currently pursuing a degree in Computer Science, Robotics, Machine Learning, Controls, or a related field with a graduation date of 2026-2027.
- Proficiency in Python, including numpy and pytorch.
- Solid software fundamentals.
- Strength in at least one of these areas: reinforcement learning, deep learning (including network architectures and training recipes), or robotics and controls (including dynamics, kinematics, and optimization-based control).
- Experience with legged or dynamic robots, sim2real, or massively parallel simulation like mjlab or IsaacLab is preferred.
- Knowledge of impedance or force control, MPC, or trajectory optimization is a plus.
- Experience designing or tuning network architectures and training recipes is preferred.
Location & details#
- This role is located in Palo Alto, California.
- The position is on-site and full-time (40 hours per week) for a minimum of 12 weeks.
- The internship is scheduled for Fall 2026, with potential to continue through Winter 2027.
- This is a paid internship.
