About the role#
The Power Electronics Controls and Modeling team handles dynamics modeling, algorithm design, and controller implementation for switching power converters. This role focuses on developing high-performance controls for products including chargers, grid-tied inverters, and resonant dc-dc converters. You will work through all stages of design, from initial concepts and topology discussions to final validation.
What you'll do#
- Develop control strategies and define algorithms for power electronics converters.
- Build dynamic models of power conversion systems to tune algorithms for performance and stability.
- Translate control algorithms into software and work with the firmware team to integrate them into production frameworks.
- Test, validate, and troubleshoot controller implementations on the bench and in system-level environments.
- Use computer simulations, including MATLAB, Simulink, HIL, and SIL, to evaluate new algorithms and design modifications.
- Support hardware bring-up, qualification of power converters, and lab work for development and debugging.
- Assist with safety and compliance testing activities.
What you'll need#
- Current pursuit of a degree in Electrical Engineering, Power Electronics, Controls, or a related field.
- Analytical skills with fundamentals in semiconductor devices, circuits, and control theory.
- Experience with modeling and simulation of power electronics converters using tools like MATLAB or Simulink.
- Hands-on testing, debugging, and troubleshooting skills in a lab environment.
- Experience with embedded firmware development for real-time control systems.
- Ability to work in a cross-functional team and communicate technical results clearly.
Location & details#
- Location: Palo Alto, California.
- Term: Winter, Spring, or Summer 2027.
