About the role#
As an intern on the Energy Engineering team, you will take on full product design responsibility. You will work from the initial concept through to production launch and ramp. This role requires you to apply engineering fundamentals to design thermal assemblies that are central to our energy products. You will collaborate with architecture, manufacturing, and service teams to improve existing products and develop new technologies.
What you'll do#
- Perform 3D design of complex parts and assemblies using FEA.
- Advance product performance while reducing cost and complexity.
- Build prototypes hands-on.
- Define specifications for dimensions, function, performance, and manufacturing.
- Release 2D part and assembly drawings.
- Conduct testing and analysis, including root cause investigations for failures.
- Travel to support production launches, supplier visits, and factory operations.
What you'll need#
- Current enrollment in a Mechanical Engineering degree or a related field.
- Strong fundamentals in heat transfer, fluids, mechanics, and electronics.
- Knowledge of material science for metals, insulators, plastics, connectors, and gaskets.
- Experience with CATIA V5 or V6.
- Familiarity with GD&T, finite element analysis, and design for reliability.
- Basic understanding of electrical design.
- Ability to document your work and report findings clearly.
- A desire to own projects and work hard.
- Experience with student Formula Vehicle, Solar Car, or Hyperloop projects is a plus.
- Direct machine shop skills are a plus.
Location & details#
- Location: Austin, Texas.
- Term: Winter 2027 and Spring 2027.
- Commitment: Full-time, on-site, minimum 12 weeks.
- Compensation: This is a paid internship with benefits.
