About the role#
We are building Terafab, a vertically integrated semiconductor factory. This facility handles logic, memory, packaging, test, and mask production in one location. As an Equipment Engineer, you will manage the procurement, installation, qualification, and performance of advanced process tools. You will work on-site in Austin, Texas, for a full-time internship during the Winter or Summer 2027 terms.
What you'll do#
- Manage semiconductor process equipment from vendor selection through installation, qualification, and sustained production.
- Support tool installation projects across logic, memory, packaging, test, and mask shop domains.
- Partner with OEM vendors to evaluate equipment architecture, assess mechanical risk, and drive design improvements.
- Influence tool specifications to improve reliability, uptime, and process performance.
- Develop and execute equipment qualification plans and establish preventive maintenance programs, spare parts strategies, and uptime KPIs.
- Use your mechanical and electromechanical design knowledge to identify root causes and improve equipment availability.
- Design equipment upgrades and coordinate with process and automation engineers to resolve equipment-related issues.
- Manage installation schedules, utility hookup sequencing, and tool readiness milestones.
What you'll need#
- Currently pursuing a degree in Mechanical Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering, or a related technical field.
- Hands-on experience installing, qualifying, and supporting at least two advanced process tool types.
- Understanding of semiconductor equipment systems, including vacuum, gas delivery, RF plasma, temperature control, and recipe management.
- Knowledge of mechanical and electromechanical design principles.
- Ability to read and interpret mechanical drawings, schematics, and OEM design documentation.
- Skill in engaging vendors at a design level to evaluate modifications and assess mechanical risk.
- Proficiency with equipment data systems like EES and FDC.
- Familiarity with FDC rule development, equipment health monitoring, and predictive maintenance strategies.

- Location: Austin, Texas.

- Commitment: Full-time (40 hours per week) on-site.
