About the role#
Tesla is seeking interns for the Factory Engineering and Infrastructure team for the Winter and Spring 2027 terms. This program places students in roles where they contribute to projects critical to factory infrastructure and manufacturing facility design. Interns work closely with managers and mentors to grow technically and professionally throughout the term.
What you'll do#
- Design complex manufacturing facilities and assist with drafting and 3D modeling.
- Produce construction drawings, review submittals, and respond to RFIs.
- Collaborate with engineers across disciplines and interface with construction trades.
- Conduct field walks to confirm installation progress and design adherence.
- Develop building models and manage clash detection, issue tracking, and data integration.
- Support quantity takeoffs and model-based data extraction.
- Create and update controls documentation, instrument datasheets, and RFQ packages.
- Perform technical bid evaluations and contribute to plant-wide control network architecture.
- Improve HMI data exchange and usability.
- Apply physics principles to fluid systems design, including HVAC, process systems, and water treatment.
- Coordinate with architecture, civil, structural, and controls teams.
What you'll need#
- Currently pursuing a degree in Electrical, Mechanical, Civil, or Architectural Engineering, Construction Management, or a related field.
- Strong understanding of engineering fundamentals and communication skills.
- Ability to multi-task and prioritize in a construction or manufacturing environment.
- Experience with BIM or CAD tools such as Revit, Navisworks, AutoCAD, and Bluebeam.
- Familiarity with industrial controls, instrumentation, and PLC platforms like Siemens, Allen-Bradley, or Beckhoff.
- Coursework or project experience in fluids, thermodynamics, HVAC, or process systems, including tools such as Pipe Flo, MATLAB, or CFD.
Location & details#
- Term: Winter 2027 and Spring 2027.
- Commitment: Full-time (40 hours per week) and on-site for a minimum of 12 weeks.
- Locations: Austin, TX; Anderson, TX; Buffalo, NY; Fremont, CA; Lathrop, CA; Sparks, NV.
- Compensation: This is a paid internship with benefits.
