About the role#
The Surgical Tech Student Extern serves as a member of the surgical team at St. Mary's Medical Center. In this role, you will act as a resource for instrumentation, equipment, and procedures within a specific surgical specialty. You will work under the direction of a Registered Nurse to support patient care during operations.
What you'll do#
- Perform in the scrub role during surgical procedures.
- Assist with the intraoperative care of patients.
- Assume responsibility for a designated surgical specialty.
- Pick supplies and instruments required for specific cases.
- Stock supplies in operating rooms and assist with the decontamination of instruments.
What you'll need#
- High School Diploma or equivalent.
- Current enrollment in or recent graduation from an approved program in Surgical Technology.
- American Heart Association (AHA) BLS certification.
- Previous operating room experience is preferred.
- Certification in Surgical Technology is preferred.
