About the role#
The Student Surgery Tech provides technical care to surgical and obstetric patients across all age groups. This role supports the safe and effective conduct of invasive surgical procedures by following established practices and standards. Interns complete required competencies within a designated introductory period and assist the perioperative team throughout the patient experience.
What you'll do#
- Set up the operating room with necessary supplies and equipment based on scheduled cases.
- Maintain a sterile environment in all assignments.
- Assist with complicated treatments, diagnostic procedures, and physical examinations under the direction of a registered nurse.
- Transport and escort patients using appropriate transfer techniques.
- Perform scrubbing and circulating duties as directed.
- Manage operating room cleanup, including disposal, cleaning, inventory, and restocking.
- Perform clerical functions to support department operations.
- Participate in department meetings and in-services.
- Support effective patient hand-offs and address patient population-specific needs.
What you'll need#
- High school diploma or GED.
- Current enrollment in an approved Surgical Tech degree program.
- Successful completion of a basic clinical skills lab.
- BLS certification from the American Heart Association.
- Relevant majors include Nursing, Health Administration, Biomedical Sciences, and Pharmaceutical Sciences.
