About the role#
As a Mechanical Engineering Intern, you will join the Global Automotive Business Unit in Winston Salem. You will work with the Electric Vehicle Charging Inlets team to support product design and development. This is a full-time, paid position for Summer 2027.
What you'll do#
- Design and iterate on mechanical components for EV charging inlets using 3D CAD tools.
- Review engineering drawings, GD&T, and Bills of Materials.
- Participate in design verification and validation activities, including prototype builds and functional testing.
- Collaborate with manufacturing, quality, and tooling teams to support Design for Manufacturing and Design for Assembly reviews.
- Support root cause analysis and corrective action processes.
- Contribute to cost reduction and product improvement initiatives through engineering change proposals.
- Present project findings and technical updates to engineering and leadership teams.
- Apply engineering fundamentals such as materials science and electrical interface requirements.
What you'll need#
- High school diploma or GED.
- Current enrollment in or pursuit of a BA/BS degree in Mechanical Engineering.
- Authorization to work in the U.S.
- Prior internship experience or completion of a major project is preferred.
