About the role#
The Legal Summer Associate role provides hands-on experience working with in-house counsel on a wide range of legal matters. You will gain exposure to commercial transactions, regulatory compliance, corporate governance, and risk management. This position involves direct interaction with attorneys and business leaders, offering a look at how legal advice supports business operations. You will participate in meetings, contribute to substantive projects, and develop skills in legal counseling and risk assessment.
What you'll do#
- Conduct research on commercial, employment, corporate, and regulatory issues.
- Analyze case law, statutes, and emerging risks to prepare memoranda and briefing materials.
- Draft, review, and proofread commercial agreements, including vendor and service contracts.
- Assist attorneys with contract negotiations and the analysis of contractual obligations.
- Support the development of internal policies, procedures, and governance materials.
- Participate in compliance projects and assist with internal investigations.
- Perform due diligence for business initiatives and strategic transactions.
- Organize information for legal reviews and attend cross-functional business meetings.
What you'll need#
- Enrollment in an accredited Juris Doctor (J.D.) program with at least one year of law school completed.
- Strong skills in legal research, writing, and analytical thinking.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite, specifically Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
- Ability to manage multiple assignments with high attention to detail.
- Demonstrated professionalism and the ability to handle confidential information.
- Strong judgment, communication, and problem-solving skills.
- Interest in corporate, commercial, employment, or in-house legal practice.
- Ability to work independently and collaborate with business partners.
