About the role#
STV is looking for a Hydraulics Engineering Intern to join our team for the Summer 2027 term. You will work alongside experienced water resources and transportation professionals on infrastructure projects. This role provides hands-on experience with hydrology, hydraulics, and stormwater management. You will collaborate with multidisciplinary teams and gain exposure to our organizational structure.
What you'll do#
- Assist senior staff with hydrologic and hydraulic analyses for transportation and infrastructure projects.
- Support the development of drainage studies, technical memoranda, and stormwater management reports.
- Help with design tasks for storm drains, culverts, and erosion and sediment control.
- Use modeling software such as HEC-RAS, StormCAD, or similar tools.
- Prepare drawings using MicroStation, OpenRoads Designer, or AutoCAD.
- Format reports, specifications, and calculations for project documentation.
- Manage project files, including electronic document organization, scanning, and printing.
- Learn about permitting processes, including NPDES and local or state stormwater requirements.
What you'll need#
- Current enrollment in a bachelor’s or master’s degree program in Civil, Environmental, Biological, or Agricultural Engineering, or a related field at an ABET-accredited university or NCEES equivalent.
- Coursework or a demonstrated interest in water resources engineering, hydraulics, hydrology, or stormwater management.
- Strong attention to detail and organizational skills.
- Ability to work well in a team environment and communicate effectively.

- Locations: Raleigh, North Carolina and Charlotte, North Carolina.
- Work Modality: Hybrid (minimum of three days per week in the office).
- Employment Type: Full-time.
