About the role#
STR is seeking a Graphic Design and Technical Communications Intern for the Summer 2027 term. This role focuses on helping engineers and researchers communicate complex technical concepts through clear and effective visual design. You will act as a visual problem-solver, turning dense data and conceptual descriptions into accessible graphics and professional presentations.
What you'll do#
- Design, develop, and refine professional PowerPoint presentations for technical, engineering, research, and business audiences.
- Collaborate with technical staff to translate complex ideas into custom diagrams, illustrations, and infographics.
- Transform text and data into well-organized, visually compelling slides.
- Improve existing presentations for clarity, readability, and visual consistency.
- Support corporate branding by creating visual assets for internal communications and signage.
- Maintain and update branded templates for Microsoft PowerPoint and Word.
- Apply consistent typography, color palettes, and layouts across all materials.
- Manage multiple assignments and meet project deadlines.
What you'll need#
- Currently pursuing a degree in Graphic Design or a related field.
- Must be a U.S. citizen.
- Proficiency in Microsoft PowerPoint, including slide layouts, visual composition, and formatting.
- Working knowledge of Microsoft Word and document formatting.
- Experience with Adobe Creative Suite, specifically Illustrator, Photoshop, and InDesign.
- Strong visual communication skills, including layout, information hierarchy, and typography.
- Ability to organize complex information and communicate it visually.
- Intellectual curiosity and a willingness to engage with unfamiliar engineering or scientific subject matter.
- Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to incorporate feedback.
- A portfolio demonstrating graphic design, presentation design, or information visualization work.
- Experience with Slide Masters, custom layouts, and document styles is preferred.

- This is a full-time, paid internship based on-site in Woburn, Massachusetts.
