About the role#
STR is seeking a creative and detail-oriented student for a Graphic Design & Technical Communications Co-Op. This role focuses on helping engineers and researchers communicate complex technical concepts through clear visual design. You will work directly with subject matter experts to translate dense information into accessible graphics and presentations. This is an on-site position based in Woburn, Massachusetts, for the Winter 2027 term.
What you'll do#
- Design and refine professional PowerPoint presentations for technical, engineering, and research audiences.
- Collaborate with engineers to understand complex technical concepts and create custom diagrams, illustrations, and infographics.
- Transform dense content into well-organized and visually compelling slides.
- Improve existing presentations for clarity, readability, and visual consistency.
- Ensure all materials adhere to STR brand standards, including typography, color palettes, and layout guidelines.
- Develop visual assets for internal communications, corporate branding, and signage.
- Support the maintenance of branded templates for both Microsoft PowerPoint and Word.
- Prepare design files for digital and print applications.
- Balance technical accuracy with visual clarity while managing multiple assignments to meet deadlines.
What you'll need#
- Currently pursuing a degree in Graphic Design or a related field.
- U.S. citizenship is required.
- Proficiency in Microsoft PowerPoint, including slide layouts, visual composition, and formatting.
- Working knowledge of Microsoft Word and document formatting.
- Experience with Adobe Creative Suite, specifically Illustrator, Photoshop, and InDesign.
- Strong visual communication skills with a focus on information hierarchy and layout.
- Intellectual curiosity and a willingness to engage with unfamiliar technical or scientific subject matter.
- Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to collaborate with non-designers.
- A portfolio demonstrating graphic design, presentation design, or information visualization work.
- Experience with PowerPoint Slide Masters, custom layouts, and themes is preferred.
- Experience with Microsoft Word templates, including styles and document standards, is preferred.
