About the role#
This internship offers a balance of office-based engineering work and hands-on industrial experience at our Flat Roll Division. You will work directly with operators and maintenance teams on the production floor to apply engineering principles to equipment and systems. This role provides exposure to the full scope of how metallurgy drives production success.
What you'll do#
- Assist with scrap analysis and alloy verification using spectrometry and other lab tools.
- Support melt shop operations by collecting and analyzing production data.
- Identify yield loss points and recommend improvements for efficiency and recovery.
- Participate in scrap recovery and process optimization projects, including developing sorting criteria and tracking melt loss.
- Collaborate with operators, engineers, and lab personnel to ensure consistency in data collection and quality assurance.
- Gain hands-on experience in casting operations by assisting with heat cycles, transfers, and turnaround tasks.
- Contribute to quality assurance efforts by validating lab results and supporting round robin testing.
- Ensure compliance with accuracy standards.
What you'll need#
- Enrollment in a Bachelor’s degree program in Materials Science or Engineering.
- A preferred GPA of at least 2.7.
