About the role#
The State of Florida is hiring a Transportation Intern to work with the District Structures Maintenance Office. This is a part-time, on-site role based in Tampa. You will support the department in managing bridge infrastructure, conducting field reviews, and assisting with technical documentation for state projects.
What you'll do#
- Assist in reviewing and updating the state bridge replacement priorities list.
- Perform quality assurance reviews of bridge inspection reports and load ratings.
- Help create a Hurricane Resiliency Plan for state bridges and causeways.
- Support the development of the 5-year Work Program for bridge repair and rehabilitation.
- Review design contract documents, specifications, and construction cost estimates.
- Analyze existing bridge structures to determine repair methods.
- Conduct site visits to bridge construction and repair projects.
- Visit movable drawbridges to review potential safety improvements.
What you'll need#
- Current enrollment as a sophomore, junior, senior, or graduate student in Civil Engineering or a related field.
- A minimum GPA of 3.2.
- At least 18 years of age with a high school diploma or equivalent.
- Proficiency with personal computers and Microsoft Office programs.
- Ability to follow oral and written instructions and coordinate work assignments.
- Authorization to work in the United States. Please note that visa sponsorship is not available for this position.

- Schedule: Part-time, 20 hours per week.
- Pay: $20.00 per hour.
