About the role#
This internship provides hands-on experience within the Brevard Operations Unit of the Florida Department of Transportation. You will work under direct supervision across construction and maintenance disciplines to support the agency mission. This position is for the Fall 2026 semester, running from August to December.
What you'll do#
- Assess proposed driveway connections based on FDOT standards and criteria.
- Review and assess proposed drainage connections for compliance with the Florida Administrative Code.
- Process and review driveway, drainage, and utility permits.
- Evaluate Maintenance of Traffic (MOT) plans.
- Assist construction project managers with various construction-related projects.
- Support the review of monthly estimates and generate reports using Microsoft Office and internal databases.
What you'll need#
- Current enrollment as a Junior or above in a Civil Engineering or related degree program.
- Must be at least 18 years of age.
- Legal authorization to work in the United States.
- Basic knowledge of engineering principles and roadway design processes.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications, including Excel, Word, and Outlook.
- Ability to organize tasks, follow instructions, and maintain professional working relationships.

- Location: Cocoa, Florida.
- Work modality: On-site.
- Compensation: $15.00 per hour.
- Term: Fall 2026 (August to December).
- Commitment: Part-time, 10 hours per week.
