About the role#
The Law Offices of the Public Defender, 20th Judicial Circuit, offers legal internships in Fort Myers. This is a compensated, part-time position. You will work under the direction of an Assistant Public Defender, gaining hands-on experience by collaborating with attorneys on a variety of complex legal tasks. Priority is given to 3L candidates and Certified Legal Interns.
What you'll do#
- Read, analyze, and interpret legal documents, technical procedures, and governmental regulations.
- Gather and analyze information to support case work.
- Prioritize and plan daily activities to ensure efficient use of time.
- Monitor work for quality and accuracy.
- Write reports, business correspondence, and transcripts.
- Evaluate problems, isolate key issues, and research potential solutions.
- Present numerical data in a clear, resourceful manner.
What you'll need#
- Current enrollment in law school.
- A four-year degree from an accredited college or university in a criminal justice related field.
- A valid Florida driver’s license.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Word, Outlook, and Excel.
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
- Ability to follow instructions and respond to management direction.
- Flexibility in work assignments and processes.
- Ability to perform basic mathematical calculations using whole numbers, fractions, and decimals.
Location & details#
- This role is located in Fort Myers, Florida.
- The position is on-site.
- The schedule is flexible, typically Monday through Friday between 8 am and 5 pm.
- You may occasionally need to lift or move up to 25 pounds.
