    About the role#

    The Florida Department of Transportation is hiring an intern for the Office of Safety in District 5 for the Fall 2026 semester. This is a part-time, paid position based in DeLand, Florida. You will work 10 hours per week while gaining hands-on experience with department processes and safety initiatives. The role supports the agency goal of reaching zero fatalities and serious injuries on Florida roadways.

    What you'll do#

    • Assist the team with setting Target Speed on various projects.
    • Identify effective safety countermeasures for transportation systems.
    • Create educational materials to share safety information with the public.
    • Research innovative transportation ideas from across the country.
    • Collaborate with the Office of Safety team to improve mobility and safety for all users.

    What you'll need#

    • You must be at least 18 years old.
    • Current enrollment as a junior, senior, or graduate student in Civil Engineering or Urban Planning.
    • Authorization to work in the United States.
    • Basic knowledge of transportation and workplace safety.
    • Proficiency in Microsoft Office, specifically Outlook, Excel, Word, and PowerPoint.

    • Location: DeLand, Florida.
    • Term: Fall 2026 (August to December).
    • Modality: On-site.
    • Compensation: $15.00 per hour.
