About the role#
The State of Florida Department of Transportation is hiring a DOT Intern for the District Four Program Management office in Fort Lauderdale. This role is a part-time position at 20 hours per week, offering students the chance to work on real-life transportation engineering projects. You will gain experience in final plans, specifications, estimates, and plans processing while rotating through the Program Management office. You will also shadow experienced managers to learn about internal work units and the overall production process.
What you'll do#
- Perform plans and quality control reviews.
- Calculate cost estimates on construction projects and verify project information.
- Develop and prepare specification packages for in-house projects.
- Ensure compliance with the Project Quality Control Plan.
- Manage pay item numbers and requests while resolving related issues.
- Assist project managers and designers with Digital Delivery procedures.
- Develop and maintain a tracking system for submittals.
What you'll need#
- Active enrollment in or acceptance to an accredited university, college, or vocational school.
- Must be at least 18 years of age.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office products including Word, Outlook, and Excel.
- Ability to communicate technical and non-technical information clearly.
- Capacity to plan, organize, and manage multiple work assignments simultaneously.
- Skill in managing competing demands and establishing priorities.
- Ability to work collaboratively with internal and external teams.
- Strong interpersonal skills, flexibility, and tact.
