About the role#
Stantec is seeking a Transportation Engineering Intern to join our multi-disciplinary team for the summer of 2027. This position offers exposure to roadway, traffic, and bridge projects. You will work in a collaborative environment on assignments that support DOT, County, and City transportation projects.
What you'll do#
- Gather project data such as traffic volumes, crash reports, field conditions, bridge information, and other materials to support design decisions.
- Prepare and assemble reports, drawings, calculations, plan sheets, and construction documents.
- Perform routine engineering calculations for roadway geometry, grading, drainage, traffic operations, signal design, and structural components.
- Assist with CAD drafting, design, and plan development using MicroStation, OpenRoads, InRoads, Power GeoPak, and other Bentley tools.
- Support traffic engineering tasks including intersection analysis, traffic forecasting, crash summaries, safety recommendations, and traffic control design.
- Assist with bridge design tasks such as basic structural calculations, plan development, and interpreting sketches.
- Participate in field work, construction observation, and meetings with design teams, clients, and project stakeholders.
What you'll need#
- Currently pursuing a bachelor’s or master’s degree in civil engineering, transportation engineering, structural engineering, or a related field.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office, including Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
- Basic understanding of civil engineering concepts related to transportation, roadway, traffic, drainage, grading, structures, or bridge design.
- Ability to interpret sketches, drawings, plans, design standards, and technical materials.
- Strong interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skills.
- Ability to work in a project team, take direction, prioritize assignments, and work independently.
- Familiarity with MicroStation, OpenRoads, InRoads, Power GeoPak, or other CAD software is an asset.
- Previous co-op, internship, design, drafting, or field experience is preferred.
- A valid driver’s license and good driving record may be required for field assignments.
