About the role#
Stantec is hiring a Structural Engineering Intern for the Summer 2027 term. This is a full-time, on-site position based in Houston, Texas. You will work within our buildings practice, collaborating with architects, engineers, and project managers to support design projects across various sectors.
What you'll do#
- Interpret drawings, specifications, codes, and other technical documents.
- Use BIM technologies to create three-dimensional models of structures and components.
- Analyze and design individual building structural systems.
- Work with project managers and technical staff to prepare design documents, including site plans, floor plans, elevations, and calculations.
- Convert redlines into document-ready work and maintain drawing revisions.
- Create electronic data files following company and client requirements.
- Publish and manage design document sets.
What you'll need#
- Current enrollment in a bachelor degree program for architectural, civil, or structural engineering at an accredited university. Completion of your junior year is preferred.
- Ability to perform basic calculations and a solid understanding of engineering concepts.
- Strong working knowledge of Microsoft Office and Building Information Modeling (BIM) tools.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Familiarity with shop drawings for various building materials and a basic understanding of floor plans and details.
- Preference is given to candidates with 2 years of related project or internship experience.
- Basic experience with Autodesk Revit and design software such as Tekla Structural Designer, RAM Structural System, RISA 3D, or Enercalc is preferred.
