About the role#
As a Mechanical Engineering Intern, you will join our Buildings practice to support engineers and designers on diverse projects for public and private clients. This full-time position runs during the Summer 2027 term and requires you to work on-site. You will operate under the supervision of senior staff to assist with mechanical system designs, including HVAC, plumbing, piping, and industrial systems.
What you'll do#
- Collaborate with multi-disciplinary teams to prepare reports, design documents, and calculations.
- Perform engineering calculations using Excel and specialized HVAC design software.
- Create HVAC and plumbing drawings and details using AutoCAD and Revit.
- Apply fundamental engineering principles to solve practical, real-world problems.
- Participate in a dedicated Summer Intern Design Project alongside interns from other building design disciplines.
What you'll need#
- Enrollment in a bachelor’s or master’s degree program in mechanical engineering at an accredited university.
- Working knowledge of AutoCAD MEP, Revit, and heat transfer calculations.
- Proficiency in the Microsoft Office Suite.
- Strong communication skills and a commitment to workplace safety.
- Ability to solve problems using sound engineering judgment and creativity.
- A strong work ethic and a desire to learn while meeting project deadlines.
Location & details#
- This is a paid, full-time internship.
- You must be able to report on-site to one of our offices in Rochester, NY; Albany, NY; Binghamton, NY; or Burlington, MA.
- Some fieldwork may be required.
