About the role#
This is a full-time, paid internship for Summer 2027 based in Sacramento, California. You will work within the Hydro and Dams team, contributing to projects involving water storage, conveyance, and hydropower. This role offers hands-on experience in geotechnical engineering while working alongside experienced practitioners.
What you'll do#
- Assist with project administration, including writing reports, drafting proposals, tracking costs, and managing project correspondence.
- Support the development of project schedules and cost estimates.
- Perform data entry and simple engineering calculations.
- Gain exposure to software tools such as CAD, Python, GIS, and GeoStudio.
- Draft technical documents, including specifications, design reports, and calculation packages.
- Support field investigations and assess subsurface conditions by reviewing drilling logs and in-situ testing data.
- Characterize geotechnical materials by interpreting laboratory and field data.
- Research information and contact vendors as needed.
- Learn about regulatory requirements and technical industry standards.
What you'll need#
- Completion of at least 3 years of undergraduate coursework in geological engineering, geology, civil engineering, or a related field.
- Enrollment in an accredited engineering program and a high school diploma.
- Post-graduate academic experience is preferred.
- Strong written and oral communication skills.
- Ability to work well in a team environment.
- Capacity to prioritize tasks, multi-task, and follow direction.
- A valid driver's license and a good driving record.
