About the role#
Stantec is hiring a Geotechnical Engineering Intern for a 12 or 16-month term starting in Summer 2027. You will join our team in Calgary or Edmonton to work on local projects. This role involves a mix of office-based design work and on-site field visits. You will work under the guidance of senior engineers to gain practical experience in the geotechnical field.
What you'll do#
- Provide general support to the geotechnical engineering team.
- Conduct geotechnical site investigations and perform construction field reviews.
- Perform engineering calculations and prepare basic reports or design criteria.
- Assist with contract administration, proposal preparation, and obtaining quotes.
- Perform due diligence and research to support new projects.
- Collaborate with team members and sub-contractors to develop cost estimates.
- Apply civil engineering concepts and use technical software to complete tasks.
What you'll need#
- Current enrollment in the 2nd, 3rd, or 4th year of an accredited Canadian Bachelor's degree in Civil, Geological, or Mining Engineering.
- Availability for a 12 or 16-month internship term.
- A valid Canadian driver’s license and access to a vehicle.
- Ability to reside in Alberta or relocate for the position.
- Strong problem-solving skills and a proactive approach to work.
- Effective communication skills and a desire to collaborate with others.
- Flexibility regarding work hours and locations, as field work may require travel and exposure to various weather conditions.
- Familiarity with Microsoft Word, Excel, gINT, GeoStudio, and AutoCAD Civil 3D is an asset.
