About the role#
As a Fire Protection Engineering Intern, you will work on finite tasks as part of a larger design team. You will operate under the close guidance and supervision of an experienced Fire Protection Engineer. This role is a full-time, paid position for Summer 2027.
What you'll do#
- Apply general concepts of fire protection engineering to support projects.
- Perform basic calculations to analyze and design engineering system components.
- Conduct code reviews of architectural and engineering plans.
- Perform building and fire code research to inform design decisions.
- Assist the team in preparing design drawings, specifications, presentations, and technical reports.
- Collaborate with architecture and engineering design professionals.
- Provide support services during construction, including submittal reviews and clarifications.
- Participate in building and construction site visits, inspections, and field observations.
What you'll need#
- Current enrollment in a Bachelor's degree program for Fire Protection, Architectural, Electrical, Mechanical, Civil, Chemical, or Environmental Engineering.
- Standing as an incoming Junior, Senior, or graduate student.
- Ability to participate in a project team, follow processes, and accept feedback.
- Basic knowledge of building and fire codes, NFPA standards, and active or passive fire protection systems.
- Strong problem-solving, analytical, and time management skills.
- Functional knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite.
- Proactive communication skills and the ability to write reports or speak in front of others.
- Experience with Revit, AutoCAD, Fire Dynamics Simulator, Contam, or Pathfinder is preferred.
- Completion of one or more courses related to fire protection engineering is preferred.
