About the role#
Stantec is hiring interns for the Summer 2027 term to join the Community Development Group in Des Moines, Iowa. You will work in a team environment on projects including urban design, roadways, park and recreation design, traffic engineering, and infrastructure. This is a full-time, paid position.
What you'll do#
- Complete the civil component of various projects within a design team.
- Inspect construction sites to ensure compliance with engineering principles and project documents.
- Assist with the preparation of plans, specifications, reports, and other deliverables.
- Draft designs and prepare construction documents using CAD software.
- Procure permits and approvals from relevant agencies.
- Communicate with clients, construction staff, and engineering team members.
- Attend project meetings and complete detailed reports as needed.
What you'll need#
- Current enrollment in an accredited bachelor degree program in civil engineering.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office tools like Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
- Understanding of basic AutoCAD and Civil 3D.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills.
- Ability to work independently and manage multiple tasks.
- A valid driver license, a good driving record, and access to a vehicle.
- Coursework or exposure to areas such as planning, construction, infrastructure, hydrology, environmental engineering, or surveying.
