About the role#
The Respiratory Therapist Internship at St. Luke's University Health Network provides students with hands-on clinical experience while completing their respiratory therapy education. This paid position offers the opportunity to work alongside experienced respiratory therapists in a supportive environment. Interns may work up to 30 hours per week, with scheduling flexibility based on individual availability and department needs.
What you'll do#
- Assist in Interventional Pulmonary procedures, including equipment setup, handling instruments, preparing and transporting specimens, and equipment reprocessing.
- Clean, disinfect, and restock respiratory equipment in hospital areas and emergency kits.
- Change equipment as needed and monitor inventory levels, including oxygen and gas cylinders.
- Coordinate with leadership regarding supply and equipment needs.
- Set up ventilators and perform pre-operative checks.
- Collaborate with Bio-med to facilitate equipment repairs.
- Model hospital core values and maintain professional customer service standards in all interactions.
What you'll need#
- High school diploma or GED.
- Enrollment in a Respiratory Therapy program is preferred.
- Familiarity with medical terminology.
- Basic computer skills with the ability to learn new software systems.
- Prior hospital experience is preferred.
- Ability to perform physical tasks, including lifting up to 50 pounds and pushing or pulling equipment up to 150 pounds.
