About the role#
Specter Aerospace is seeking a Propulsion Test Engineering Co-op for a 4-6 month cycle. This role focuses on the development and testing of hypersonic propulsion systems, including ramjet and scramjet engine hardware. Co-ops receive project ownership similar to full-time staff and work alongside experienced engineers on mission-critical projects. This posting covers both Propulsion Design and Propulsion Test Engineer co-op roles.
What you'll do#
- Take ownership of propulsion subsystem and component development from initial ideation through first-article testing and characterization.
- Conduct engine and propulsion component testing within a direct-connect hypersonic testing facility.
- Design and manufacture engine components, test stand hardware, and piping or tubing systems.
- Develop analysis code for thermofluids and propulsion performance using Python or MATLAB.
- Participate in technical discussions and design reviews across multidisciplinary vehicle sub-system groups.
What you'll need#
- Current pursuit of a bachelor's degree in mechanical engineering, aerospace engineering, or a related field.
- Experience with CAD software, with a preference for SolidWorks.
- Hands-on experience gained in a technical shop, laboratory, or student organization.
- A fundamental understanding of core mechanical engineering principles, specifically regarding thermofluids.
- Eligibility to obtain and maintain a U.S. Secret security clearance, which requires U.S. Citizenship.
