About the role#
Specter Aerospace is seeking a Propulsion Design Engineering Co-op for the Summer 2027 term. This role involves contributing to the development and testing of hypersonic propulsion systems, including ramjet and scramjet engine hardware. Co-ops are given project ownership and work alongside full-time engineers on tasks critical to the company mission.
What you'll do#
- Take ownership in propulsion subsystem and component development from ideation to first-article test and characterization.
- Design and manufacture engine components, test stand hardware, and piping or tubing systems using in-house machining capabilities.
- Conduct engine and propulsion component testing in a direct-connect hypersonic testing facility.
- Develop thermofluids and propulsion performance analysis code using Python or MATLAB.
- Participate in design reviews and technical discussions across multidisciplinary vehicle sub-system groups.
What you'll need#
- Pursuing a bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering, aerospace engineering, or an equivalent field.
- Experience with CAD software, with a preference for SolidWorks.
- Ability to work with project autonomy and take ownership of designs.
- Eligibility to obtain and maintain a U.S. Secret security clearance, which requires U.S. Citizenship.
- Ability to pass a pre-employment drug screen and background check.
