About the role#
Southern New Hampshire University is hiring a student employee to serve as a Shelter Assistant for the Animal Rescue League of New Hampshire in Bedford. This role supports the daily operations of the shelter and helps maintain a healthy environment for the animals in their care. It is a hands-on position for students interested in animal care, behavior, or veterinary fields.
What you'll do#
- Assist with animal care and shelter maintenance during morning and evening shifts.
- Feed animals and ensure fresh water is available.
- Clean kennels, cat condos, and small animal enclosures.
- Manage laundry and organize supplies.
- Sort, organize, and help distribute donations.
- Support the ARLNH Pet Food Pantry Program.
- Assist with evening closing procedures.
- Perform other duties as assigned by ARLNH staff.
What you'll need#
- Current enrollment in a SNHU degree program.
- Work study included in your financial aid package.
- Reliable transportation.
- Comfort working with animals of all sizes and temperaments.
- Comfort interacting with members of the public.
- Ability to follow directions accurately and work independently with minimal supervision.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
- Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail.
- Ability to safely lift and carry bags of pet food or supplies weighing up to 40 lbs.
