About the role#
This is a 6-month co-op experience starting in January 2027 within the Performance Coatings Group Commercialization Engineering team. You will work alongside a mentor to gain practical knowledge in process engineering, paint and coatings manufacturing, LEAN, Six Sigma, and continuous improvement. This is a full-time, on-site position based in Brecksville, Ohio.
What you'll do#
- Support engineers, scientists, chemists, and technicians with daily operations.
- Perform and support processing equipment maintenance and troubleshooting.
- Execute laboratory tasks using general instruments and advanced equipment.
- Collaborate with research and development team members across process chemistry and material science groups.
- Prepare samples, materials, and tools for testing and development.
- Conduct technical tests, analyses, and research based on formulas and project requirements.
- Complete documentation, data analysis, and calculations to report results.
- Clean, maintain, and calibrate standard equipment while keeping a safe work environment.
What you'll need#
- Current enrollment in a Bachelor's degree program for Chemical Engineering, Chemistry, Material Science, or Polymer Science.
- Declared major in Chemical Engineering.
- Rising or current sophomore, junior, or senior status.
- Minimum 2.8 GPA, with a 3.0 GPA preferred.
- At least 18 years of age.
- Legal authorization to work in the United States without sponsorship.
- Ability to work up to 40 hours per week for the duration of the 6-month term.
- Previous experience in an R&D or lab environment.
- Experience operating or repairing mechanical equipment like pumps, engines, motors, or gear boxes.
- Proficiency with basic hand tools, MS Office, Business Objects, and statistical software.
- Working knowledge of Minitab.
- Previous experience working in teams through employment, volunteering, or extracurricular activities.
