About the role#
Shawmut Design and Construction is hiring a Safety Intern for the summer of 2027 in Los Angeles. This role is for rising Juniors and Seniors pursuing a bachelor's degree. It provides hands-on experience working directly with project teams and offers advance consideration for the CMST program after graduation.
What you'll do#
- Identify potential jobsite hazards and review methods to minimize risk with the safety manager.
- Conduct regular safety audits alongside Field Operations staff and the safety team, then follow up on identified issues.
- Talk directly with subcontractors to address safety concerns.
- Build relationships with project team members, subcontractors, and clients.
- Help the safety manager lead new hire safety orientations for incoming operations staff.
What you'll need#
- Current pursuit of a bachelor's degree in construction management, occupational health and safety, civil engineering, or a related field.
- Strong communication skills and the ability to interact with all levels of management.
- High attention to detail.
- Prior internship or co-op experience in construction is preferred.
