About the role#
This internship provides high school seniors with hands-on experience in a collaborative environment. You will assist with projects involving design, prototyping, and innovation using advanced tools. This position is suited for students interested in careers related to STEM, engineering, design, or manufacturing.
What you'll do#
- Support MakerSpace and Shaw Technical Academy staff with daily operations.
- Setup and maintain 3D printers, laser cutters, CNC machines, and other fabrication tools.
- Help organize and maintain inventory within the MakerSpace.
- Document projects and create simple guides or instructions for future users.
- Participate in design and prototyping activities under the supervision of project leads.
- Assist associates and other interns with projects and troubleshooting.
- Maintain a safe and clean workspace by following all safety protocols.
What you'll need#
- Current enrollment in a high school Work-Based Learning program.
- Enrollment or completion of a high school career pathway related to manufacturing, engineering, or design.
- An interest in technology, engineering, or design fields.
- Basic computer skills and familiarity with industrial design software like CAD.
- You must be at least 17 years old and legally authorized to work in the U.S.
- Strong communication, teamwork, and organizational skills.
Location & details#
- Location: Shaw Plant 2, Dalton, Georgia.
- Schedule: Part-time, approximately 15 to 20 hours per week during the school term.
- This is a paid internship.
